Housing Plan Refused Over Birds

The Cairngorms National Park Authority has refused permission for new homes to be built at Boat of Garten amid concerns about the risk to capercaillie living on the site.

The school roll at the village of 600 people has fallen from 34 to 22 as young people leave, unable to get access to affordable housing.

Davall Developments had submitted a proposal to build 16 houses for social rent and 16 for shared-equity ownership, with another 45 being built for the private market. The park’s planning committee voted by 11 to five to refuse permission.
