The Scottish Land & Estates’s dedicated team of policy staff undertakes a wide range of lobbying and representational activity on behalf of members at Scottish, UK and European levels. Staff and members regularly give both written and oral evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s subject committees on legislation and regulations affecting members’ interests.
In 2010, for example, Scottish Land & Estates gave evidence on legislation affecting matters ranging from housing, crofting and the historic environment, to agricultural holdings and wildlife management.
Scottish Land & Estates is also a key stakeholder consulted by the Scottish Government on a whole host of policy issues and law reforms ranging from animal health and welfare and CAP reform, to private rented sector housing, succession law, climate change, animal health and wildlife crime. Scottish Land & Estates sits on a large number of stakeholder groups representing the full gambit of members’ interests.
As an active member of the European Landowners’ Organisation (ELO), Scottish Land & Estates is closely involved in European policy development and lobbying, with close connections to the European Commission via its links with ELO.
