Scottish Land & Estates believes that a holistic view of the needs of rural communities is required, which includes affordable housing, social considerations, adequate transport and jobs. This should involve both public and private sector solutions. Scottish Land & Estates urges the Scottish Government to act on the needs of both accessible and remote rural Scotland, recognising that the problems of each may require different solutions. Scottish Land & Estates also asks that the Scottish Government recognises that any realistic definition of community must include estates and land managers, community owners, owner-occupiers and farming tenants as integral to the fabric of rural life. Scottish Land & Estates membership makes a significant contribution to sustainable rural communities, through the provision of jobs, housing, tourism and a wide range of public benefits.
